Where it came from
Released as part of the initial wave of Funko Pop! figures dedicated to The Muppets, Superhero Kermit captures the beloved frog in a playful costume variation. This design choice draws inspiration from various sketches in Jim Henson’s catalog where the Muppets would adopt theatrical personas, reflecting the irreverent and imaginative spirit that defined the franchise since its television debut in the 1970s.
The figure was produced during the early years of the Pop! line's rapid expansion into pop culture licensing. While the sculpt follows the standardized, oversized-head aesthetic characteristic of the Funko brand, it remains a notable entry in the Muppets series for its attempt to blend the familiar design of Kermit with the trope of comic-book heroism, a common theme in the meta-humor of The Muppet Show.
