Where it came from
The Funko Pop! Trolls series, featuring the iconic Blue Troll as number 6, was released to coincide with the resurgence of the Good Luck Trolls franchise. Originally created by Danish woodcutter Thomas Dam in the late 1950s, the Trolls became a global cultural phenomenon characterized by their distinctive tall, colorful hair and wide, endearing eyes. This Funko iteration reimagines the classic toy through the company's signature stylized aesthetic, distilling the nostalgic charm of the original mid-century dolls into a compact vinyl format.
The design process for the Pop! line emphasizes the reduction of complex characters into minimalist, recognizable silhouettes. In the case of the Blue Troll, the designers aimed to capture the essence of the classic troll aesthetic while adhering to the standard Pop! proportions, such as the enlarged head and black button eyes. Upon its release, the figure was received primarily by collectors of pop culture memorabilia and those seeking a touch of 1990s-style nostalgia, serving as a modern homage to the enduring legacy of Dam's original creation.
