Where it came from
The Gold Troll Pop figure was released by Funko as part of the Diamond Collection, a series characterized by the application of fine glitter to represent premium or chase variations of standard vinyl figures. This piece is based on the Good Luck Trolls, a line of dolls with signature up-swept hair originally created by Danish woodcutter Thomas Dam in the late 1950s. The Trolls became a global cultural phenomenon throughout the 1960s and 1990s, cementing themselves as icons of nostalgic kitsch and good fortune.
Funko’s design approach for the Diamond Collection focuses on visual texture, utilizing a dense, sparkling coating to elevate standard sculpts into celebratory display pieces. The Gold Troll, numbered 8 in the Trolls Pop series, leans into the whimsical aesthetic of the franchise while adopting the recognizable bobblehead format that defined Funko’s rise in the collectibles market. Collectors generally view these Diamond variants as aesthetic centerpieces within the broader Trolls lineup, favoring them for their distinct finish compared to the matte texture of common releases.
