Provenance

Where it came from

Released as a 2016 New York Comic Con exclusive, this Funko Pop! figure depicts the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell, in his classic Kree military uniform. The figure was produced to celebrate the character's legacy within the Marvel Universe, specifically catering to long-term comic book collectors who appreciated the deep history of the mantle before its more recent iterations gained widespread cinematic popularity.

The figure features the character's iconic green and white costume with red accents, a design derived from the character's 1960s debut by Stan Lee and Gene Colan. By focusing on this specific version of the hero, the design team aimed to honor the aesthetic established by artist Gil Kane, who was responsible for the character’s most recognizable look. Upon its release at the convention, the figure was well received by the community as a nostalgic homage to a foundational piece of Marvel's space-faring lore.
