Where it came from
The Capwolf Funko Pop, number 882 in the Marvel series, is based on a distinctive storyline from the Captain America comic book run in the early 1990s. This transformation occurred in Captain America issue #402, where Steve Rogers was captured by the villain Dr. Nightshade and experimented upon, turning him into a werewolf. The character design leans into the campy, high-concept aesthetic of nineties comic book storytelling, translating a brief but memorable narrative arc into a stylized collectible format.
Funko’s design for this figure captures the essence of the creature while maintaining the brand's signature aesthetic, featuring the wolf-like features paired with the iconic Captain America uniform. As a niche variant of one of Marvel's most prominent characters, it serves as an homage to the weirder, more experimental chapters of comic book history. It was released to appeal to long-time collectors and fans of Marvel lore who appreciate the inclusion of deep-cut comic references in the Funko line.
