Chewbacca (Flocked)

The flocked Chewbacca figure, numbered 05 in the original Star Wars Pop! series, was released by Funko to satisfy collector interest in texture-varied variants. Released during the early years of the Pop! vinyl line, the figure builds upon the base design of the standard Chewbacca release, applying a fuzzy, synthetic fiber coating to mimic the Wookiee’s dense fur. This variant was part of a broader effort by Funko to establish the Star Wars license as a cornerstone of their catalog by offering both standard and specialty versions of iconic characters.

The design draws directly from the classic aesthetic of the original 1977 Star Wars character, stylized to match the signature Funko aesthetic of large eyes and a simplified, oversized head. By using flocking, the designers sought to provide a tactile experience that distinguished the piece from the smooth, matte-finish vinyl figures that dominated the market. At the time of its debut, the item was met with enthusiasm by niche collectors who favored the added detail of the flocked texture, cementing it as a sought-after piece within the early Star Wars Pop! collecting community.
