Where it came from
The Cursed Barbossa Pop! figure was released as a highly anticipated exclusive for the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Produced by Funko as part of their Disney line, the figure depicts Captain Hector Barbossa in his skeletal, moonlight-cursed form, a design choice that draws directly from the iconic transformation sequence in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film. The figure features intricate detailing, including the character's ragged period clothing and the inclusion of his undead capuchin monkey, Jack, perched upon his shoulder.
Designed to appeal to both fans of the film franchise and serious vinyl toy collectors, the piece was meant to celebrate the long-standing popularity of the character within the Disney portfolio. At the time of its release, the figure was met with significant enthusiasm from the collector community, who praised the level of detail on the skeletal mold and the inclusion of the monkey accessory. It remains one of the most recognizable and sought-after iterations of the Barbossa character in the Pop! format.
