Where it came from
Dave was released by Funko in 2013 as part of the Pop! Movies line to coincide with the theatrical release of the film Despicable Me 2. As one of the franchise's most recognizable Minions, the figure was designed to translate the character's distinct cylindrical shape and oversized goggles into the standardized, stylized aesthetic that defines the Pop! series.
The design process for this figure focused on capturing the character's playful personality through his signature blue overalls and expressive, wide-eyed look. Upon its introduction, the Dave figure was well-received by fans of the Despicable Me franchise, quickly becoming a staple for collectors of early Pop! figures and helping to solidify the Minions' status as a centerpiece of modern pop-culture merchandising.
