Where it came from
Released in 2021 as part of the Funko Pop! Marvel line, this figure was created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Deadpool character, who first appeared in New Mutants #98 in 1991. The design captures a surreal and humorous moment from the comic's history, depicting Deadpool popping out of a birthday cake, rendered here with a distinct metallic paint finish to distinguish it from the standard edition.
Funko’s design team developed this piece to lean into the character's signature irreverence and fourth-wall-breaking style. By combining a celebratory birthday theme with the metallic aesthetic, the figure serves as a collectible nod to the character's long-standing status as a fan-favorite anti-hero. It was received as a playful addition to the broader Marvel 30th-anniversary collection, appealing primarily to completionists and fans of the franchise’s more eccentric visual history.
