Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Marvel series in 2020, this figure celebrates the macabre aesthetic of the Marvel Zombies comic book run. The series, which originated in the mid-2000s, reimagined iconic Marvel superheroes as flesh-eating undead, creating a stark, gritty contrast to traditional heroic tropes. This particular release features Deadpool, the 'Merc with a Mouth,' paired with Headpool, his zombified, detached, and floating counterpart from an alternate dimension.
The design draws heavily from the artistic style established by Marvel's zombie-themed graphic novels, emphasizing decaying textures and the character's signature tactical suit. Funko’s designers aimed to balance the grotesque nature of the undead franchise with the company's trademark stylized aesthetic. Upon release, the figure was well-received by fans of both the Marvel Zombies lore and Deadpool’s unique brand of meta-humor, serving as a popular entry in the broader Marvel Pop! catalog.
