Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line, this figure captures the iconic horror hostess Elvira alongside her companion, Gonk. The design draws directly from the cult classic persona of Cassandra Peterson, whose portrayal of Elvira as the sharp-tongued, gothic Mistress of the Dark redefined late-night horror television in the 1980s. This specific figure was developed to celebrate the enduring pop culture legacy of the character, incorporating her signature beehive hair, plunging neckline, and the distinct, monstrous aesthetic of her sidekick.
Funko’s design team leaned into the exaggerated, stylized proportions that define the Pop! aesthetic to translate Elvira's dramatic stage presence into a vinyl format. By including Gonk, the figure caters to long-time fans who appreciate the deeper lore of the Mistress of the Dark franchise. Upon release, the item was met with enthusiasm from the horror community and collectors, serving as both a nostalgic tribute to the original 1988 film and a modern celebration of the character's status as an enduring icon of camp horror.
