Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Star Wars collection, this figure was produced to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1983 film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The line was designed to celebrate iconic characters from the final installment of the original trilogy, with this specific iteration capturing Emperor Palpatine in his recognizable dark robes as he appeared in his throne room aboard the second Death Star.
Funko’s design team utilized their signature stylized aesthetic, prioritizing a simplified, approachable form that retains key character details such as the Emperor’s pale, aged features and hunched posture. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors who focus on the 40th-anniversary sub-series, serving as a nostalgic addition to displays alongside other figures depicting the climactic moments of the film.
