Where it came from
The Admiral Ackbar Funko Pop, numbered 617 in the Star Wars series, was released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1983 film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The character, a Mon Calamari commander of the Rebel Alliance, is best remembered for his iconic line during the Battle of Endor. This specific iteration was designed as part of a commemorative wave intended to celebrate the legacy of the original trilogy's conclusion, focusing on the distinct aesthetic of the 1980s cinematic production.
Funko’s design team utilized their standard stylized aesthetic to interpret Ackbar’s unique facial features, including his large eyes and gill-like structures, while retaining his signature Rebel uniform. By incorporating the 40th-anniversary branding, the figure serves as a nostalgic touchpoint for long-term collectors. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the franchise for its role in rounding out the Rebel leadership lineup within the expansive Star Wars Pop collection.
