Etch A Sketch

The Etch A Sketch was originally invented in the late 1950s by French electrician André Cassagnes and brought to the United States by the Ohio Art Company in 1960. It emerged as a breakthrough in mechanical drawing toys, utilizing a clever system of aluminum powder and plastic beads controlled by two white knobs to create temporary line drawings. Its iconic red frame and simplistic interface became a hallmark of mid-century play, eventually earning a place in the National Toy Hall of Fame.
