Where it came from
Fin Du Chomp was released as part of the early Funko Pop! series, a line that debuted in 2010 to expand the company's offerings beyond their traditional Wacky Wobblers. As one of the earliest figures in the catalog, numbered 12, this character represents a period of experimentation for Funko as they sought to establish their signature stylized aesthetic—featuring large, blocky heads and circular eyes—which would eventually define their global brand identity.
The design of Fin Du Chomp emerged from Funko's initial desire to create original characters before pivoting heavily toward licensed pop culture intellectual property. It reflects the creative freedom the design team held during the brand's infancy, leaning into a whimsical, shark-inspired look that served as a prototype for the proportions that now define the thousands of figures released by the company annually.
