Where it came from
Firefighter Mickey, numbered 427 in the Pop! Disney series, was released as part of a commemorative collection celebrating Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary in 2018. The figure draws inspiration from the 1935 animated short 'Mickey's Fire Brigade', in which Mickey and his companions attempt to extinguish a fire with comedic, often disastrous results. This specific aesthetic captures Mickey in his vintage firefighting gear, paying homage to the classic black-and-white animation era while adopting the stylized, wide-eyed look characteristic of the Funko Pop line.
The design was developed by Funko’s in-house team to honor the historical milestones of the Walt Disney mascot. By selecting iconic roles from his decades-long career, the 90th Anniversary series aimed to resonate with both lifelong Disney enthusiasts and modern vinyl collectors. Upon its release, the figure was well-received for its nostalgic appeal, serving as a snapshot of Mickey's evolution as a cultural icon and a staple of Disney animation history.
