Where it came from
Flounder, the beloved sidekick from the 1989 Disney classic The Little Mermaid, was reimagined as part of the Funko Pop! Disney series. This specific figure, number 237, was released as part of the Diamond Collection, a sub-line characterized by the application of a glitter finish to the vinyl figures to provide a more premium, eye-catching aesthetic. The piece was designed to capture the character's signature anxious yet loyal expression, translated into Funko’s iconic stylized form.
The figure follows the standard design language of the Funko Pop! line, featuring oversized proportions and a simplified, wide-eyed look. Upon its release, it appealed primarily to Disney collectors and fans of the film who sought a more decorative version of the character. Its inclusion in the Diamond Collection reflects the broader strategy of producing 'variant' versions of popular characters to cater to collectors who appreciate textural variety and the distinct shimmer that defines this specific release series.
