Where it came from
Funshine Bear was introduced to the Funko Pop! Pez line as part of an expansion into nostalgic 1980s properties. The figure honors the character's origins in the Care Bears franchise, which was originally developed by American Greetings in 1981 to appear on greeting cards before evolving into a global cultural phenomenon defined by the distinct personalities and belly badge symbols of each bear.
The design of this Pop! Pez iteration captures the minimalist, stylized aesthetic of Funko's vinyl figures while serving as a functional dispenser for the classic candy. Funko’s creative team aimed to maintain the iconic yellow coloring and sun-emblem aesthetic of the original Funshine Bear character, grounding the piece in the visual language of the 1980s Care Bears animation while adapting it to the specific constraints of the Pez dispenser format.
