Where it came from
Grimlock was introduced as part of the Funko Pop! Retro Toys line, specifically numbered 69 within the series. The figure depicts the iconic leader of the Dinobots from the original Transformers franchise, capturing his classic Generation 1 aesthetic. This release served to celebrate the enduring legacy of the 1980s toy line and animated series, appealing to long-time fans who grew up with the original Hasbro action figures and the subsequent media adaptations.
The design of this Pop! figure emphasizes the character's signature mechanical dinosaur form, rendered in the stylized, oversized-head aesthetic characteristic of the Funko brand. By focusing on the distinctive gold and silver color scheme and sharp angles of the original character design, the figure functions as both a modern collectible and a nod to the nostalgic industrial design of the 1980s. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by the collector community as a faithful representation of a fan-favorite character within the expansive Transformers toy universe.
