Where it came from
Grimace first appeared in McDonald's advertising campaigns in the early 1970s as 'Evil Grimace,' a character who would steal milkshakes. Over time, the character's design evolved into the benevolent, purple, amorphous figure known today as McDonaldland's best friend. Funko released this Pop! figure as part of their Ad Icons series, a collection dedicated to celebrating the mascots and cultural symbols that have defined corporate branding and commercial history for decades.
The figure features the classic, simplified aesthetic characteristic of the Funko Pop! line, capturing the character's iconic purple hue, rounded shape, and toothy smile. By distilling the mascot down to its essential visual components, the design aims to evoke nostalgia for the mid-century fast-food aesthetic. It was received as a popular addition for collectors focused on pop culture ephemera and mid-century marketing iconography.
