Where it came from
The Half-Kakuja Kaneki figure, numbered 465 in the Pop! Animation line, draws its inspiration from the dark fantasy series Tokyo Ghoul. Released as part of Funko's effort to capture the dramatic evolution of the protagonist, Ken Kaneki, the figure depicts his iconic, battle-worn appearance following his torture and subsequent transformation. This specific aesthetic captures the transition between his human self and his ghoul identity, emphasizing the series' themes of alienation and psychological fracture.
The design of this figure leans into the distinct visual language of the manga and anime, utilizing Funko’s signature stylized proportions to represent a character defined by sharp edges and visceral intensity. By focusing on the distinctive red-and-black kagune protrusion, the figure serves as a collectible representation of the series' darker aesthetic turn. It was received by fans as a quintessential piece of Tokyo Ghoul merchandise, valued for its faithful interpretation of a pivotal character moment that resonated deeply with the audience of the source material.
