Where it came from
The Ken Kaneki Pop! figure, numbered 61 in the Pop! Games line, was released by Funko to commemorate the popular dark fantasy anime and manga series Tokyo Ghoul. The item depicts the series protagonist, Ken Kaneki, during his transformation into a ghoul, specifically featuring his iconic mask and one eye showing the characteristic red kakugan. It was produced as part of Funko's effort to expand its reach into the anime market, capturing the distinctive aesthetic of the character's design from the show's first season.
The design of the figure focuses on the stark contrast between the character's human form and his ghoulish alter ego. The illustration and sculpting aim to capture the unsettling yet stoic nature of Kaneki as he struggles with his new identity. Upon release, the figure was well-received by fans of the Tokyo Ghoul franchise, who sought out the collectible as a tangible representation of the series' central conflict. It remains a staple for collectors of anime-themed vinyl figures, representing a significant early entry in Funko's dedicated anime lines.
