Where it came from
The Infinity Killmonger figure, numbered 989 in the Marvel Pop! series, was produced as part of the merchandise line supporting the 2021 Disney+ animated series 'What If...?'. The series explores alternate timelines within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this figure specifically depicts the character Erik Killmonger as he appears after usurping the power of the Infinity Stones. It reflects the show's departure from the established live-action canon, allowing for more stylized and dramatic character interpretations.
The design follows the signature aesthetic established by Funko, featuring the oversized head and simplified, chibi-inspired proportions that have become a hallmark of the company's collector lines. It highlights the specific visual cues from the episode 'What If... Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?', showcasing the character's armor integration with the iconic Infinity Stone aesthetics. Like most figures in the Marvel series, it was released to bridge the gap between niche collector audiences and casual fans of the ongoing Marvel television projects.
