Where it came from
John the Hangman Ruth, portrayed by Kurt Russell, was released as part of Funko’s Pop! Movies line to coincide with the 2015 theatrical debut of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. This figure captures the character's rugged Western aesthetic, complete with his signature mutton-chop sideburns, heavy winter coat, and the iconic handcuffs that define his role as a bounty hunter in the film.
The figure was designed to mirror the stylized, oversized-head aesthetic characteristic of the Pop! brand while maintaining recognizable details from the movie's costume design. Released during a period when Funko was expanding its reach into mature-rated cinema, the figure was well-received by collectors of film memorabilia who appreciated the faithful translation of the character's gritty, snow-covered appearance into the minimalist vinyl format.
