Where it came from
The King Felix Funko Pop, numbered 1 in the MLB series, was released to commemorate the legendary Seattle Mariners pitcher Félix Hernández. As the inaugural figure in the MLB line, it was designed to capture the likeness of a player who became the face of the franchise during his tenure from 2005 to 2019, specifically highlighting his trademark intensity and role as the centerpiece of the team’s pitching staff.
Funko’s design team utilized their standard stylized aesthetic to recreate Hernández’s iconic look, complete with his jersey number and signature facial features. The figure was met with enthusiasm by Mariners fans, who were famously known as the King’s Court, and it served as a significant milestone for Funko as they expanded their sports memorabilia reach into Major League Baseball.
