Where it came from
Lance Bean was released as part of the Funko Pop! Games series, numbered 586, to celebrate the enduring legacy of the classic Konami run-and-gun arcade game, Contra. First appearing in the 1987 original, Lance is one of the two iconic protagonists tasked with infiltrating the Red Falcon organization. This figure captures his rugged, 8-bit inspired aesthetic, complete with his signature bandana and tactical combat attire, serving as a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of side-scrolling action titles.
The design of the figure emphasizes the simplified, stylized proportions characteristic of the Pop! line while maintaining the recognizable features of the game's original pixel art sprite. By isolating the character from his partner, Bill Rizer, Funko allowed collectors to curate their own tactical teams. The figure was released during a period of renewed interest in retro gaming iconography, and it was received by the gaming community as a faithful, charming representation of one of the most recognizable heroes in arcade history.
