Where it came from
Lightning McQueen, the protagonist of the 2006 Pixar film Cars, was rendered as part of the initial wave of Funko Pop! Movies figures. Released during a period when Funko was rapidly expanding its catalog of licensed character collectibles, this figure (number 156) captures the character's iconic bright red racing aesthetic, aerodynamic frame, and signature lightning bolt decal. The design aims to distill the complex, rounded 3D animation of the film into the minimalist, oversized-head caricature style that defines the Funko brand.
The figure represents the intersection of mid-2000s animation nostalgia and the specific design language that propelled Funko into a global pop-culture phenomenon. As one of the early entries in the Disney-Pixar license, it reflects the company's focus on translating recognizable cinematic archetypes into accessible vinyl collectibles. While these figures are widely produced, the McQueen model remains a consistent staple for collectors interested in the evolution of modern toy licensing and the enduring popularity of the Cars franchise.
