Where it came from
The Lightning Funko Pop, numbered 427 in the Pop! Heroes series, was released to coincide with the popularity of the CW television series Black Lightning. Based on the DC Comics character Jennifer Pierce, the figure depicts the character in her superhero attire, reflecting the shift toward bringing modern adaptations of DC's roster into the vinyl collectible market. It was produced as part of a broader wave of figures dedicated to the show's cast, aiming to offer fans a stylized representation of the hero as she appeared on screen.
The design follows Funko's signature aesthetic, characterized by a large, square head and simplified facial features, which contrast with the intricate sculpting of the character's costume elements. Created by Funko's internal design team, the figure was intended to bridge the gap between traditional comic book collectors and the show's demographic. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by fans of the series and collectors of the Heroes line, who appreciated the inclusion of a significant, younger-generation character in the DC Funko catalog.
