Where it came from
The Lil' Gruesome Pop! figure was released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation line, drawing inspiration from the character’s appearance in the 1968 Hanna-Barbera animated series Wacky Races. The character, a member of the Gruesome Twosome who piloted the Creepy Coupe, was designed to evoke a playful, gothic aesthetic that mirrored the show's eccentric cast of racers. This specific Holiday variant was created as a thematic variation, incorporating seasonal elements into the character’s classic spooky silhouette.
Funko’s design team sought to translate the exaggerated, cartoonish proportions of the original 1960s animation into the stylized vinyl medium that defines the Pop! brand. By maintaining the iconic purple and black color palette while adding holiday-themed accents, the designers aimed to satisfy collectors who appreciate both the nostalgia of vintage animation and the festive collectibility of seasonal merchandise. The figure was received as a niche addition to the Wacky Races collection, appealing primarily to fans of the classic Hanna-Barbera catalog.
