Where it came from
The flocked Lion Pop! figure was released as a 2017 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, representing the magical pink companion from the animated series Steven Universe. The series, created by Rebecca Sugar, gained a dedicated following for its emotional depth and distinct art style, leading Funko to adapt its cast into their signature vinyl aesthetic. The flocked texture was specifically chosen to mimic the character's soft, supernatural fur, distinguishing it from the standard vinyl release.
Funko’s design team consistently employs the flocked variant technique to enhance the tactile appeal of characters with animalistic traits. Upon its release, this figure was well-received by fans of the show who appreciated the attention to the character's unique design elements, such as the pink coloration and mane. It remains a notable piece within the broader Television line, serving as a material nod to the show's focus on fantastical creatures.
