Where it came from
The Funko Pop! Pez line emerged from a collaborative venture between Funko and the Pez Candy company, blending the stylized aesthetic of Funko's signature vinyl figures with the nostalgic appeal of classic candy dispensers. Released as part of this series, the Lion-O figure (number 102) celebrates the central protagonist of the 1980s animated series Thundercats, translating the character's iconic orange mane and battle-ready expression into a miniature collectible format.
The design draws directly from the classic Thundercats source material, prioritizing the recognizable silhouette of the Lord of the Thundercats. By reimagining Lion-O as a Pez dispenser, Funko aimed to tap into the market of adult collectors who hold an affinity for 1980s Saturday morning cartoons. The figure was received as a bridge between two distinct categories of pop-culture memorabilia, catering to both toy enthusiasts and dedicated fans of the Thundercats franchise.
