Where it came from
Mantenna was released as part of the Funko Pop! Retro Toys line, specifically capturing the likeness of the fan-favorite character from the Masters of the Universe franchise. The figure draws inspiration from the original 1980s action figure produced by Mattel, which was renowned for its unique eye-popping action feature and unsettling, multi-legged design. Funko stylized the character for this collectible release, translating his distinct insectoid features and purple color scheme into their signature aesthetic while maintaining the iconic look of the vintage Evil Horde member.
The Masters of the Universe franchise has experienced a significant cultural resurgence in recent decades, driven by nostalgia for the original toy line and its accompanying media. Funko's inclusion of Mantenna in their Retro Toys series acknowledges the character's enduring status within the MOTU mythos, appealing to both long-time collectors of the vintage line and modern enthusiasts of stylized vinyl figures. The design focuses on the character's most recognizable traits, including his bulging, expressive eyes and articulated legs, successfully integrating the core elements of the classic toy into a contemporary desktop format.
