Where it came from
Max (Flocked) was released as part of the Funko Pop! Books series, specifically representing the iconic protagonist from Maurice Sendak’s 1963 children's classic, Where the Wild Things Are. The figure commemorates the character's beloved wolf suit, utilizing a flocked texture to mimic the soft, fuzzy appearance of the costume as described in the original picture book. This specific version was produced to cater to collectors who appreciate tactile variations within the Pop! line, emphasizing the whimsical, textured aesthetic of the source material.
The design of this figure leans heavily into the visual language established by Sendak’s minimalist yet expressive illustrations. By opting for a flocked finish, Funko aimed to translate the tangible quality of Max's wolf suit into a three-dimensional collectible format. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by fans of the book and the subsequent 2009 film adaptation, serving as a nostalgic tribute to a character who remains a fixture of 20th-century children's literature.
