Where it came from
The Mrs. Whatsit Funko Pop figure, numbered 398 within the Disney series, was released in 2018 to coincide with the premiere of the live-action film adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's classic novel, A Wrinkle in Time. Funko produced this line to capture the fantastical aesthetic of the film's character designs, specifically focusing on the ethereal and otherworldly appearance of the three celestial beings who guide the story's protagonists.
The design of the figure mirrors the high-fashion, whimsical costume direction utilized in the Ava DuVernay-directed film. By focusing on the vibrant color palette and distinctive ornamentation associated with Mrs. Whatsit, the figure represents a modern interpretation of a literary character that has been a staple of young adult literature since the 1960s. The release was received as a nostalgic tie-in that sought to bridge the gap between long-time fans of the source material and a new generation of moviegoers.
