Where it came from
Released as a shared exclusive for the 2020 Spring Convention, the Mushu Riding Panda Pop! Ride celebrates a whimsical reimagining of characters from the 1998 Disney animated film Mulan. The piece features the fast-talking dragon Mushu mounted atop a Giant Panda, a playful fusion that reflects the thematic elements of Chinese folklore central to the movie's aesthetic while leaning into the stylized, caricature-driven design language characteristic of the Funko Pop! aesthetic.
The figure was produced during a period of expansion for the Pop! Rides line, which sought to pair popular franchise characters with iconic vehicles or creatures from their respective stories. The design choices prioritize the oversized, expressive features of the vinyl line, with Mushu captured in a dynamic pose. It was received by the collecting community as a niche collector's item, primarily appealing to dedicated Disney animation fans and completionists of the broader Mulan-themed releases.
