Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line, this figure captures the titular character from the 2006 cult classic comedy film Nacho Libre. The film, directed by Jared Hess and starring Jack Black as a monk moonlighting as a luchador, was produced during a period of rising interest in nostalgic, quirky independent cinema. Funko designed the figure to embody Nacho’s signature wrestling attire, complete with his distinctive blue cape and mask, aiming to translate the actor's expressive physical comedy into their iconic stylized aesthetic.
The figure features Nacho in his iconic wrestling gear, reflecting the film's visual identity which blends vibrant luchador aesthetics with the humble, earthy tones of a Mexican monastery. Within the Funko community, this piece is recognized for its attention to detail, specifically the accurate representation of the character's facial expression and mask. Upon its release, it became a sought-after collectible for fans of the movie, serving as a tangible memento of the film's enduring influence and its unique contribution to the sports-comedy genre.
