Where it came from
The Pale Man figure originates from the 2006 fantasy film Pan's Labyrinth, directed by Guillermo del Toro. Designed by creature effects artist David Martí and his team at DDT Efectos Especiales, the character was inspired by Goya's paintings and the myth of Cronus, intended to represent the gluttony and institutional cruelty of the film's fascist setting. Its distinct appearance, featuring eyes in its palms, was achieved through a combination of practical makeup and sophisticated animatronics.
As a collectible, this specific 'Hands Up' interpretation captures the creature's most iconic and unsettling pose from the banquet scene. It was produced for the specialty market to cater to fans of elevated genre cinema who appreciate the film's dark, gothic aesthetic. Critics and audiences alike heralded the creature design as a masterpiece of modern practical effects, helping solidify the film's enduring legacy in the horror and dark fantasy genres.
