Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! NHL series, this figure depicts Pekka Rinne, the iconic goaltender who served as the backbone of the Nashville Predators for fifteen seasons. Created to celebrate Rinne’s status as a franchise legend and his 2018 Vezina Trophy win, the figure features his signature Predators uniform and goalie equipment. It reflects the broader trend of the mid-2010s where Funko expanded its sports line to capture the likenesses of marquee NHL stars, targeting fans who wanted to commemorate their favorite players in the brand's signature stylized aesthetic.
The design follows Funko’s classic Pop! template, emphasizing a large head and simplified, de-detailed features that prioritize immediate recognizability through specific jersey colors and equipment colorways. This piece is categorized as number 39 within the hockey-themed sub-line. Upon its release, it was received as a standard collectible for hockey enthusiasts, gaining popularity primarily among Predators fans looking to honor the Finnish goaltender's significant contributions to the team’s defensive legacy and their historic 2017 Stanley Cup run.
