Where it came from
The Pennywise Meltdown figure, designated number 875 in the Pop! Movies line, was released by Funko in 2019 to coincide with the theatrical debut of It Chapter Two. It captures a specific, grotesque transformation sequence from the film, depicting the entity in a state of decay and shifting form. This figure was designed to appeal to horror enthusiasts and franchise collectors who favor the more visceral and unique character variants within the expansive Funko catalog.
The design team at Funko aimed to translate the intense practical and digital effects used in the movie into their signature stylized aesthetic. By focusing on the 'meltdown' concept, the figure leans into the surrealist horror elements of the story, utilizing the classic Pop! proportions to make the gruesome imagery feel like a collectible toy. Upon release, it was received as a standout piece for its departure from the standard clown appearance, gaining traction among fans of the second film's more abstract visual style.
