Where it came from
The Praetorian Guard Pop! figure, numbered 209, was released as part of the Funko merchandising campaign for the 2017 film Star Wars: The Last Jedi. These figures were designed to represent the elite protectors of Supreme Leader Snoke, characterized by their striking crimson armor and specialized weaponry. The design process focused on translating the intricate, samurai-inspired aesthetic of the film's costume department into the signature Funko stylized vinyl format, emphasizing the glossy finish and the specific whip-like electro-bisento weapon held by this iteration of the character.
Upon release, the figure became a standard part of the expansive Star Wars line. It serves as a visual record of the Lucasfilm shift toward distinct, stylized character designs in the sequel trilogy. While the Praetorian Guards were noted by fans and critics for their unique combat sequence in the film, the vinyl figure is primarily recognized by collectors as a faithful, albeit simplified, representation of the film's costume design team's work, fitting into the broader ecosystem of mass-market Star Wars collectibles.
