Where it came from
The Porg (Open Wings) Funko Pop, numbered 198 in the Star Wars: The Last Jedi series, was released in 2017 to coincide with the film's theatrical debut. These creatures were designed as endemic inhabitants of Ahch-To, introduced by Lucasfilm's creature shop to provide a whimsical visual element to Luke Skywalker’s secluded environment. Funko’s interpretation captures the creature's wide-eyed, avian appearance, prioritizing the character's distinct silhouette and expressive features that made it an immediate centerpiece of the film's marketing campaign.
The design of this figure leans into Funko’s signature aesthetic, characterized by an oversized head and simplified, stylized proportions. By depicting the Porg with its wings spread, the sculpt differentiates itself from the standard standing variant, offering a sense of motion that resonated with collectors seeking dynamic poses. Upon its release, the figure was widely embraced by the Star Wars community, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable and frequently encountered collectibles from the Sequel Trilogy era.
