Where it came from
Prince John, the villainous lion from Disney’s 1973 animated adaptation of Robin Hood, was released as figure number 98 in the Pop! Disney line. Funko designed this piece to capture the character's signature regal, yet greedy appearance, complete with his crown, ornate robes, and the iconic thumb-sucking pose that highlights his pampered and petulant personality. It is part of a series that pays homage to classic Disney animation, appealing to both nostalgic viewers of the 1970s film and contemporary collectors of character-driven vinyl figures.
The figure draws directly from the art style of the film, which utilized the studio's xerography process to maintain a distinct, expressive look. Funko's interpretation translates these 2D hand-drawn elements into the signature 3D aesthetic of the Pop! brand, focusing on the character's exaggerated features and specific color palette. Since its introduction, the figure has been well-regarded by collectors for its successful capture of one of Disney's more memorable antagonist designs.
