Where it came from
Purple Carl was released in 2013 as part of the initial wave of Funko Pop figures based on the animated series The Walking Dead. The figure depicts the character Carl Grimes, specifically featuring a distinct purple-tinted color palette that distinguishes it from the standard release. This stylistic choice was intended as a limited variant, produced during a period when Funko was rapidly expanding its Pop line to cover popular cable television dramas, leveraging the intense fan base of the AMC series.
The design of the figure adheres to the iconic, simplified Pop aesthetic characterized by a large, square-shaped head and minimal detailing. While the sculptor behind this specific piece remains uncredited—as is standard for early Funko production—the design was guided by the broader directive to translate the show's gritty, post-apocalyptic survivors into the brand's signature collectible style. The variant was well-received by collectors of the early era, becoming a noted piece within the wider Walking Dead merchandise catalog.
