Where it came from
The R2-D2 and Princess Leia Hologram Pop! Deluxe figure was released by Funko as part of their Star Wars line to commemorate the iconic opening scene of A New Hope. This moment, where R2-D2 projects Leia's desperate plea to Obi-Wan Kenobi, serves as the narrative catalyst for the entire original trilogy. The design captures the translucent blue aesthetic of the hologram, differentiating it from the standard R2-D2 releases by emphasizing the cinematic effect of the projector light.
Funko’s design team developed this deluxe piece to highlight the dynamic interaction between the two characters within a single display. By utilizing a stylized monochromatic blue palette, the figure aims to replicate the flickering, low-fidelity transmission style of the 1977 film. It was received by the collecting community as a nostalgic tribute to one of the most recognizable scenes in science fiction history, sitting prominently within the Pop! Deluxe series which often focuses on pivotal character pairings.
