Where it came from
Professor Ratigan, the arch-villain from the 1986 Disney animated feature The Great Mouse Detective, was released as part of the Pop! Disney line in 2021. The figure captures his appearance from the film, designed by Disney’s character animators to be an imposing, sophisticated, and menacing rival to Basil of Baker Street. His design reflects a Victorian-era elegance contrasted with his brutish, rat-like reality.
The figure features Ratigan in his signature cape and top hat, holding his cane, consistent with the theatricality of the character voiced by Vincent Price. Funko's interpretation aimed to celebrate the cult following of the 1986 film, which has seen a resurgence in appreciation among animation enthusiasts for its darker, more complex tone compared to earlier Disney projects. It was received as a nostalgic addition for fans of the studio’s Renaissance-era precursors.
