Where it came from
Ray Fillet, a mutant manta ray from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, was introduced as a companion to the turtles in the 1987 animated series and the original Archie Comics run. Created by writer Ryan Brown, the character was designed to emphasize the environmental themes prevalent in the comics, serving as a protector of marine life. His inclusion in the Pop! Movies line, specifically as number 1390, reflects the ongoing resurgence of nostalgia for the 1980s and 90s incarnations of the series.
The Funko Pop design for Ray Fillet captures his signature aesthetic, including his deep blue coloring, aquatic features, and the heroic expression consistent with his portrayal as an ally to the Turtles. By incorporating characters from the extended TMNT universe, Funko sought to appeal to long-time fans who grew up reading the comic series alongside the traditional television show. It was received as a welcomed addition for collectors focusing on completionist sets within the expansive TMNT sub-line.
