Where it came from
The Funko Pop! VHS Covers series was developed to celebrate iconic cinema by housing a standard-sized vinyl figure within a protective display case that mimics the aesthetic of vintage VHS clamshell packaging. Released as part of this line, the Ripley figure—numbered 23—commemorates the 1979 science fiction masterpiece Alien, directed by Ridley Scott. The design captures Sigourney Weaver’s character, Ellen Ripley, in her signature jumpsuit, set against a backdrop featuring the film’s original poster art and promotional styling.
This collectible reflects the 1980s and 1990s home video era, appealing to fans who appreciate the tactile history of film distribution. The figure and box design were created to serve as a display piece for enthusiasts of the Alien franchise, prioritizing nostalgia by replicating the specific cover art that appeared on rental store shelves. Upon release, the series was received as a bridge between modern vinyl figure collecting and the historical evolution of home media.
