Where it came from
The Chestburster Pop! figure, designated number 1988 within the Pop! Movies series, was produced by Funko to celebrate the enduring legacy of the 1979 science fiction horror film Alien. This piece depicts the iconic larval stage of the Xenomorph, a creature famously designed by Swiss surrealist artist H.R. Giger. Giger's original design sought to merge mechanical and biological elements into a terrifying, biomechanical form that challenged traditional monster tropes of the era.
Funko’s interpretation translates Giger’s visceral and unsettling design into the signature stylized aesthetic of the Pop! brand, featuring the oversized head and simplified features characteristic of the line. The figure serves as a nod to the film's most infamous scene, capturing the horror of the Xenomorph’s emergence. It was released to appeal to both long-time fans of the Alien franchise and collectors of horror-themed vinyl figures who appreciate the juxtaposition of classic cinematic terror with contemporary toy design.
