Where it came from
Russell was released as part of the initial Pop! Disney lineup, specifically as item number 60, following the 2009 release of Pixar's animated film Up. The figure depicts the earnest young Wilderness Explorer, complete with his signature sash and full set of merit badges. It was designed within Funko’s signature stylized aesthetic, which emphasizes oversized heads and simplified, expressive facial features to translate cinematic characters into compact vinyl collectibles.
The design choice for this piece focuses on the iconic silhouette of the character’s scout uniform, aiming to evoke the charm and optimism central to the film’s narrative. As an early entry in the Disney series, it reflects the era of Funko’s expansion into mainstream licensing. The figure was well-received by fans of the movie, solidifying its place as a staple for collectors of Pixar-themed merchandise due to the film’s enduring popularity and emotional resonance.
