Where it came from
Sabochan is a recognizable mascot for the Japanese pharmaceutical company Sato Pharmaceutical, representing their popular liver-health tonic, Liveritol. First introduced in the mid-20th century, the character was designed to create a friendly, approachable face for a health supplement, tapping into the long-standing Japanese cultural tradition of using whimsical mascots to humanize corporate branding and establish consumer trust.
The Funko Pop! version of Sabochan, released as part of the Ad Icons series, translates the mascot's signature oversized, helmeted head and cheerful expression into the brand's distinct vinyl aesthetic. This figure was produced to appeal to collectors interested in global advertising history and the intersection of Japanese corporate iconography with contemporary pop culture, reflecting Funko's strategy of documenting the visual legacy of iconic brand mascots worldwide.
